„Beyond Themes & Templates, Why Shopware Projects Need a Frontend Management Platform“

Abstract

Headless Commerce promises ultimate flexibility, but in practice, teams face an uncomfortable truth: between the Shopware backend and a performant, maintainable frontend, there’s a gap that’s expensive, fragile, and hard to scale when filled with custom code alone. Who builds the pages? Who owns performance? How does it all stay maintainable when three agencies and five developers are working on it? In this talk, Marcel Thiesies and Sebastian Langer make the case for a new category: The Frontend Management Platform (FMP). In the first part, Marcel explains from a business perspective why traditional approaches, whether Shopware themes, pure headless builds, or page builders, hit their limits, and what strategic advantages an FMP delivers for merchants and agencies alike. In the second part, Sebastian opens the hood and walks through the building blocks of an FMP using Laioutr as a real-world example: from the component library and orchestration layer to the visual editor, hosting, performance management, and app ecosystem and why each of these layers is essential for the system to deliver maximum value.

About the Speakers

Marcel Thiesies, CEO & Co-Founder, Laioutr GmbH Marcel comes from the e-commerce trenches: as Head of Digital at DEPOT (Gries Deco Company) and CEO of Ambiendo, he experienced firsthand how complex it is to deliver performant, scalable digital experiences for major brands. That experience led him to build Laioutr, a platform designed to close exactly that gap. As CEO, he owns product vision, partnerships, and go-to-market, and is passionate about bringing Composable Commerce from theory into practice.

Sebastian Langer, CTO & Co-Founder, Laioutr GmbH Sebastian is a full-stack developer with a deep passion for developer experience and high-performance web architectures. As CTO of Laioutr, he leads the platform’s technical architecture, from the Nuxt/Vue-based rendering pipeline to API orchestration with Shopware, Shopify, commercetools, and other backends. He’s active in the open-source and e-commerce community as screeny05 and a regular at meetups and hackathons.
